Coffee

Green Sourcing

Committed to ethical and sustainable sourcing, we purchase green coffee beans from importers who align with our values. We pay premium prices to support fair trade and environmentally friendly practices. We're also proud to work with Cafe Imports, a local certified B Corporation, to purchase imported coffee. Where possible, we also seek out green coffee that supports organizations like ACODIHUE and ASOMUJER - that strive to produce high-quality coffee while standing for values reflecting ours.

Our exclusive focus on specialty-grade coffee guarantees superior quality, as each lot undergoes rigorous screening and cupping processes before we walk those beautiful jute bags through our doorstep.

Though we're near the tail end of the coffee value chain, we don't turn a blind eye to what happens on the farm where the - coffee bushes? ..shrubs? ..trees?.. treelets?! - where the coffee plants grow. Our business decisions reflect that we're mindful of the farmers, producers and workers cultivating our coffee.

Decaffeination

The coffee in our No Wake roast has been decaffeinated using Ethyl Acetate (EA), an organic compound that exists naturally in bananas and can also be found in wine. Fun fact: Though not related to coffee processing, EA has even been studied by NASA scientists.

Presuming you aren't here for a TED talk on chemistry, but just want to know: Is it safe to consume? (Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Still yes, but with more sugar cane involved.)

Product Availability

Fun fact: did you know that coffee "beans" are actually seeds from a fruit? That's right! That means we're a "bean co." in name only. Since coffee cherries are harvested throughout the year depending on the region, we're constantly on the lookout for new and exciting coffees from our importers. Once we taste and evaluate them, we decide whether to offer them as a single origin, part of a seasonal blend or as a permanent addition to one of our signature blends.

Some of our coffees are always available, while others are limited-time offerings. We strive for consistency and quality in our blends, so to keep the coffee fresh, we may only offer a particular blend when it's "in season."

Roasting Philosophy

We're all about bringing out the best in every bean! Simply put - we roast each coffee to highlight its unique flavors while staying close classically enjoyable characteristics. That said, look out for adventurous coffees on the menu. We understand that everyone's taste preferences are different, so if you're curious about a new coffee, grab a 4 oz. sample and let us know what you think.

We like fun facts around here, so here's another one: coffee has more flavor compounds than wine!

Subscriptions

How does the subscription work?

Joining the South Shore Club is the easiest way to ensure you never run out of fresh beans. You’ll save 10% on every bag, and you can choose to have your coffee delivered Weekly, Every 2 Weeks, or Monthly. We roast club member orders on Tuesdays and ship on Wednesdays, so you'll get your coffee fresh no matter which option you choose.

Can I change, skip, or cancel my subscription?

Absolutely. We want this to be the easiest part of your morning, not a contract. You can skip a shipment, change your delivery frequency, or cancel your membership at any time through your customer portal.

When will my coffee be roasted and shipped?

To ensure maximum freshness, we stick to a strict rhythm. We fire up the roaster every Tuesday for all club orders and ship them out on Wednesday. Depending on when you first sign up, your order will slide into the next available Tuesday roast cycle.

How do I get Free Shipping?

If you subscribe to 3 or more bags (or your order total is over $45), shipping is completely free.

Can I add one-time items to my next club shipment?

Yes! If you want to try a new limited roast or add a sampler to your next box without paying extra shipping, you can add "one-time items" directly to your upcoming subscription order through your account portal.

How will I be billed?

You will be billed automatically based on the frequency you chose (Weekly, Every 2 Weeks, or Monthly). You’ll receive an email notification prior to your next shipment, so you have plenty of time to skip or adjust your order if you need to.
